Peter, I believe what you are referring to is the time it takes for a large complex image to load on the page. I believe the loading time reflects the capabilities of the server and how much traffic it is burdened with at any given time.
Have you noticed that sites with lots of images may load faster late at night when there is less traffic?
I find the "hiccuping" disconcerting, but the result may be worth waiting for.
I just remembered something: If you provide the size of the image in the image HTML it may load faster. I should run all my graphics through a graphics program some day and find out what their width and height are in pixels so I can specifiy the dimensions every time I post a graphic. This won't be particularly fun to do and record the data. You wouldn't believe how I have to stretch my time these days.
I don't have much time for talking about this stuff or how I do it . . . I just do it and let others follow their muse and teach themselves on tutorial sites.
What do you do with your free and not so free time, Peter?
