Subject: Thanks for visiting Creativity Cafe - Kindred Spirit Alert

Dear Leigh Bulmer,

Thanks for making contact!!

To read your message that mirrors the words I was speaking (describing
our proposed network of Creativity Cafe's) as your messasge came up on
the screen was most rewarding and quite miraculous! For indeed, the
programs I have put in motion are demonstrations of (empowering) content
for our proposed network of Creativity Cafe venues and community
communication centers; "New Schools for the Next Millennium;" based on
edutaiment. Creativity Cafe becomes a physical bridge to cyberspace,
with a staff of mentors and guides that would exemplify the words you so
estutely offered in our forum, offering interactive healing experiences
(edutainments) presented to general public audiences with the intention
of liberating their self imposed restrictions, inspiring their highest
creative expression, and rewarding them with income streams resulting
from their moves toward personal growth and life optimization.

I would be most happy to have a live conversation with such a kindred of
spirits as you are. Would you be interested in furthing the end goal of
establishing a local node for the edutainment venture and venue, the
likes of which has never been attempted (nor possible untile now), with
the sole intent of healing humanity in the most viable and impactful
ways---through public interactive theater incorporating the (healing)
modalities of creative expression that you have mentioned?

Aloha and Blessings,

The Role of the Creative Arts in the Recovery and Wellness:
A Resource Guide
***A Call For Contributions***

Greetings! My name is Leigh Bulmer and I am a drama therapist in the Montreal area. I am working with Diane Gattermann, an art therapist, to create a resource guide that focuses on the use of the creative arts (art, dance, drama, music, sandplay, poetry, photography, video work and storytelling) in promoting health in North American Aboriginal communities. We are members of the Aboriginal Mental Health Team in affiliation with the Jewish General Hospital and McGill University in Montreal (www.mcgill.ca/psychiatry/amh).

The objective of this guide is to provide project suggestions to community members who are interested in implementing the creative arts therapies or artistically creative programs as a form of intervention for healing or personal development. The scope of the guide is quite broad and will include projects facilitated by artists, teachers, and counselors who are working artistically with individuals or organizing artistic projects with larger groups (in schools or in the community). The resource guide will be aimed at artists, educators, social workers, counselors, recreation facilitators, spiritual leaders and other community members who would be interested in using the arts with the goal of increasing wellness and encouraging recovery. The guide will be made available to the public through the Jewish General Hospital and over the internet and hopefully will encourage and inspire many to either begin or continue to use the creative arts.

The guide will consist of an overview of the different artistic modalities (art, music, dance, poetry, photography, storytelling, and sandplay) followed with a section containing descriptions of artistic processes and programmes that have been done or are currently running in communities across Canada and the US. The guide will be made available both by mail and over the internet (at the mcgill/psychiatry web page), therefore the descriptions should be appropriate for the general public.

If you have used the arts for wellness in a program, I would appreciate a description of your work, discussing the goals, the type of art used, the people you worked with, how the using the arts influenced wellness or recovery, and if there were any specific influences of cultural, community, personal or social values. If you have written (or know of) any books, articles, web pages, given a workshop or conference, or created a video on the uses of the arts for wellness, I would like to include them in the reference section of the guide. I would also appreciate the names of anyone you know of who has used the arts in other programs for wellness or recovery. I intend for this guide reflect the reality of how people use or can use the arts for wellness, not to exclude processes because they were not or can not be conducted by "creative arts or therapy trained" individuals. The guide is for everyone.

I would like to produce the document before December and therefore would appreciate a response as soon as it is possible from you. If some come after this date, however, I would still welcome them.

Please e-mail your descriptions, suggestions, other contacts to me at: lbulmer@cyberglobe.net or leighbulmer@hotmail.com

or mail them to:
