What techniques do you use to overcome the challenges of our rapidly changing and complex world?

: I am interested in hearing from teachers who are using art, music, theatre, puppets, and writing to teach subject matter and heal the classroom. I am seeing a lot of articles on school reform and it seems that the heart of the matter is that many of the things being dictated to educators--results in taking the heart out of the classroom.
I agree--creativity of dress, language and thought is squelched by the school system. Kids don't respond to anyhting out of the ordinary, and therefor it is very hard to teach that way.I have a secondary ed. degree and only in the College classroom is creativity for teachers encouraged.
