Its been a while - Lifes changes

I just got back from a trip to LA and SF. It was great to see and play with old friends and make new ones! Things on Maui are so much different than the mainland. I am very torn by my hunger to play with teammates in physical reality rather than the virtual spaces of the Web.

Do you hunger for something? Does your soul ache? That's how it is for me... Happiness? Maybe saving the world is not such a good focus for this wandering and creative soul. Maybe I should just make sure I am happy. People on Maui seem to be good at that. Having friends who call me, makes me happy. Too bad not many do! I know why too.

enter the goddess - Saleena and healing Spirit

••••••••••• Monday, March 14, 2005 11:42 ••••••••••••••

what an amazing time today was. Packed with friends and healing, love, compassion and potential partners and forward momentum.

Saleena appeared in tears two nights ago after calling to say she was stranded with no place to go. I allowed her to stay in the back room. In the morning she recounted her tail. I was feeling like i can help her for a night or two but if she doesn't have money to pay rent, and if she is going to be a drama queen, then I think I will pass on having her around.

All that changed today expectedally after she interacted with John Kimmey. She and I got to know each other before he arrived for his 10 am follow up with the kidcast sponsor sale he is in the third day of. He didn't get much done today as i introduced him to Saleena. She and he had some major psychic interactions and he was able to lose about 10 years. She and he working in the living room where I was fixed at the computer.

She was taking him into trance and she was in trance. I was delighted that I had two frriends who are psychic, spiritual and evolved humans who both were drawn to my orb and visa versa. It was a great blessing i discovered after hearing her recount her connection with the spychiic children. She wsas part of the indego kids tribe and knows james twyman. She has all sorts of kid connections and is willing to work with me on the kcfp project in appropriate ways.

Meanwhile I emailed Michael that unless I can come up with some money to offset my situation, I ws goning to be focusing on the lori grace party if that should come to pass?

Daniela dalled and showed up to join us at the healing night at Sp[irits.l Ed Elking was on his way for our 4pm graphix session, and Pi called and came over for PI DAY, 3.14 (2005).

at the healing, we call took our own cars wanting autonomy and winding up leaving together. I was wanting healing and called in a woman named Deva, who when I turned to hug her at the door coming in, had given a half hug... but when I asked for healing and was open to anyone, she was the one who offered. I was making foot contact with S.

Gift and Silver linings backfire - 12/30/04

••••••••••• Thursday, December 30, 2004 7:55:39 AM Pacific/Honolulu •••••••••••

The story of how an artist tried to make something good happen for the citizens of Maui County only to have it backfire.

It's no wonder kids on Maui are undernourished. I was awarded community service which I choose to do at the Kihei Youth Center. I had offered to use my skill as an artist-educator to teach children how to use computers to make a movie of personal art, photos, writing and narration. I had successfully given this DIGITAL STORTYELLING playshop last time I had to do community service. The folks at Kihei Youth Center had no problem.

I was looking forward to the excitement and interest of the kids who normally play violent video games or watch TV. Both of which deliver no valuable skills, or "mindware" as the content of the games and television programs is filled with violence, anger, and valueless examples of abuse and disrespect for people, their property and lives.

I had spoken with Alika the KYC director. He had O.K.'d the digital storytelling playshop last time I choose community service; for a seat belt ticket. I choose community service because being on disability and not having a regular income like other folks, money is quite dear to me. In my conversation with Alika, I described what I would do and got permission to lead a two day 4 hour workshop, and receive credit for a flyer I produced announcing it.

Alika said he wanted to advertise my playshop and get more kids in this time... I made a flyer announcing what I would be teaching; to help KYC promote the class to the kids and community members. Alika was fine with this. I faxed it to him, and called to see if it came through. It didn't so I faxed it again and made sure it was received.

When the day came to work off my 8 hours (Alika agreed to credit me for the one hour the flyer took to make) I loaded all my gear, camera, tripod, computer, and software and hauled over to the Youth Center where I was met by two ladies who had no idea of the flyer's contents and insisted it was not received because they didn't see it.

They also saw the announcement I had sent into the Maui news to announce the opportunity for Maui's children to learn 21st century job skills in a fun and friendly way. They resented the fact that I had let the press know what I was doing; saying it was against regulations for me to promote something mentioning the Kihei Youth Center...and informed me not to do it again. They then directed me to find Ron, the gentleman who guides and governs the kids while at the youth center. I had worked with him last time. The ladies were administrative assistants.

I set everything up and began to address the nearby kids who were curious. Then Ron gathered a few more kids. I explained to them what I would be teaching. After a short while and some discussion in the office, Ron comes back and springs on me, that there can be no videotaping or audio recording of the kids without parental consent. Now, KYC had known about this for a month. The flyer I had made and faxed to Alika made it clear what would be happening.... The flyer was never reproduced and distributed. The 2 office workers knew nothing about it, and apparently were told nothing by Alika? I did as I was told.

I put away the camera and changed plans to have the kids learn how to make art with the computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus common in the computer graphics industry. Remarkably the kids, took to it with ease and began creating art, It was something new and different, creative and fun.... yet, when I went to the office at the end of the first of two 4 hour sessions, I was told not to come back.

Not only were the office works upset that I had taken my own time to try to get more kids to participate in the learning experience (via alerting the news media), but took it upon themselves to reverse what was a proven hit with the kids, and squelch the possibility of learning more and expressing themselves through creative expression using the computer. They told me not to come back... even after I agreed to change my program so there would be no audio-video recording.

I was going to teach them how to make music with computers so as to comply with the request for no filming or audio recording, but the two women were intent on making sure the kids would not receive my gifts, or the possibility of education beyond their dreadful games. They certainly didn't want me interesting them in something beyond the junk food for their bodies and minds - that is the de rigueur KYC menu for growing dumbed down children addicted to violence and sugar.

I had gone to the bathroom to discover a child had missed the toilet. Feces were all over the floor. I would say the attendants that day had missed the boat and made things difficult because I took a creative approach to help this community's children with technology literacy and creative expression.

Aloha Alika, I was surprised by the reaction of your staff both, stating that they never saw the flyer you OK'd. They then tell me not to come back to work off the remaining 4 hours of my service even though I complied with the request to not video or audio record the children (though you had no problem with that last time I offered my skills and talents to the youth of Maui and in particular, those visiting your Kihei Youth Center. I would like to have a conversation with you about what happened and why? The office assistants were upset that I followed your words stating you wanted to "organize my service so more young people would be present." I never imagined that announcing the opportunity for Maui kids to learn 21st Century job skills, and to take advantage of the free experience for learning new tools for creative expression, published in the newspaper would have been a problem.

FYI, I had faxed the article I submitted to the news paper, to you - two days before it was published (the same day I sent it to the news paper). I saw no problem in this, so I thought nothing of it, until I was informed that that was against KYC policy or something? Anyway.... The kids were really interested and produced some nice artwork. I was asked to burn a CD of what they did. That took another 15 minutes. Can you credit me for that, as well as the one hour to make the flyer that you OK'd as well as yesterday's service for a total of 5.25 hours toward my 9 hours of service? Thanks! I remain, Peter Rosen, in Service.

Well I never sent the above note to Alika. Politics are at play here. In fact, Jason had informed me that Kalimaya is now on the KYC board of directors. I had noticed she had come in during my teaching yesterday. I would not be surprised if she had something to do with the reversal of Alika's statement, and denial that he authorized my digital storytelling flyer.. that he now claims no knowledge of. It's no wonder why Hawaii's children are at the bottom of the heap in literacy skills.

Turning Adversity into Silver Linings

For immediate release
Stop: Dec 29, 2004

How do you turn a dark cloud inside out to reveal a silver lining? Just ask Peter Rosen, who is turning the aggravation of a $70 seat belt fine into a community service opportunity benefiting Maui’s youth.
Rosen was recently cited for a seat belt infraction while driving home, oddly enough, from traffic court where he had appeared for a previous seat belt infraction. The second citation occurred when he attempted to take some medication while at a stoplight. Just as the light turned green he realized his water bottle had rolled beneath his seat. In attempting to retrieve the bottle he unbuckled his belt. A moment later the light turned green and traffic was beginning to move. Unfortunately for Rosen, a police officer observed him putting his seat belt back on and issued a citation. Neither the cop nor the judge cared that he was taking advantage of the stoplight to take medication. However, this is where the silver lining comes in: Rosen found a way to turn his double trouble into a gift to the children of Maui.
Since community service is an alternative way to pay for ones “crimes,” Rosen arranged to offer his knowledge and teaching skills in a 2- day free, DIGITAL STORYTELLING PLAYSHOP on December 29th and 30 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Kihei Youth Center in North Kihei. Any young person who understands, or would like to understand, the art of storytelling with computers to make a personal film, is invited to take advantage of this unique opportunity. The 8-hour Playshop will provide an overview of the tools and techniques for taking family photos and creative ideas to the next level, both on CD, DVD and/or on the special web spots that offer young people free web hosting for their multimedia stories.
Rosen, an internationally noted teacher of DIGITAL STORYTELLING and founder of Maui nonprofit, Visionary Artists Resources Including Other Unique Services (V.A.R.I.O.U.S. Media), has been helping young people produce and experience POSITIVE MEDIA. He has produced over 11 Artists Showcase and Networking events on Maui that offer creative people a “living gallery” opportunity to tell their stories and share their art. His award winning “KidCast for Peace; Solutions for a Better World” project has connected Maui’s youth with kids of other lands; in a series of live video conferences on the Internet; - designed to connect kids in school classrooms (and kids at home), to allow them to learn about other cultures and be appreciated for sharing their art and their heart!
Students should bring family photos, music on CD and a brief, one-page story that can be illustrated with images found on the Internet. They will also be able to record a narration that will form the foundation of their digital story. Although stories can be about anything, Rosen suggests they consider ideas for making the world a happier, healthier, more peace-filled place to live. Rosen is sure that by the time he has completed his mandatory community service, his students will have learned how to create video stories on their own.
Though pre-registration is not necessary, it is helpful to check in first by calling Rosen’s office at 875-4747. The Kihei Youth Center can also be reached at 879-8698.

Changes for the New Year

The Adventures of Shiloh Bones

How to have a good time? Well, its not producing a show only to have 10 people show up for a total donation of $20. Everyone was served, and i suppose I could say that for me as well, but I'll be hog tied if I can figure out how?

And, the hoops of personality I had to jump through with the Unity events rep to get the over pirced venue!! What was i thinking? Well, lets just say, I will never book that space again. It was wonderful when the spirit of aloha prevailed at Unity. Now they need to extract blood from Rocks. Mainstream control and high prices fueled by untrust are the order of the day...eliminating another affordable venue where gifts to the community could be offered at affordable rates. no thanks!

If we are to do another V.A.R.I.O.U.S. Media Ink; The Maui Artists Showcase and Networking Event, it wil be at akaku.

Merry Happy Holidaze.... not feeling the magic of the moment in the money season of manufactured christmas.

I am recovering from producing the showcase after a month of effort for what, I ask myself? I am reflecting on Maui not being LA, where the event served a hungry public.

Here people are fed by nature, not so much the desire to make new friends or showcase their talent. Its a different dynamic and I am 20 years different too!

It was nice to fit a jam session in with Maria and Joshua who came over... as Thursday Night is Music Night at Shiloh's.

Another Maui Artists Showcase + Music with sis

Getting another artists showcase together. I was in Lahaina today visiting with Stef, David and Family. We went on a whale watch... everyone was sitting neatly in chairs. I had to stand becuase of my back. Stef's mother said sit down, the other people want to see. I said I could care less. let them look in the other 359 degrees. It might have been a bit abrupt and rude even, but I've learned to take care of myself and my needs. I had to stand up. I told her that - and she was cool.

And so were the first whales of the season. Wow. we spotted several pods. But the highlight was the Dolphins! fantastic how they came right up along side the boat and swam with us.... i took some movies.

VMI SHOW 188 OVER - Christmas Party

••••••••••• Saturday, December 4, 2004 10:47:28 PM Pacific/Honolulu •••••••••••
grand wailea hotel... wireless access

The show went really well thanks in no small part to Brooks, pi, Jorel, and assorted artists who came to the aid of the party. Art and Heather were next door at t aparty for cindy so they brought over some cake.''Alika hired Kenny, the lahaina musician and akaku friend to videotape the showcase. I had come prepared for all but forgot the power adapter for the video camera that sat on a tripod the whole show and was never used.

Just created a blog, my third after KidCast, The Adventures of Shiloh Bones, and now 9470965 (Creativity Cafe Founders Corner).... don't know how to work them, but I guess I will learn.. Blogging is the biggest thing these days.

went to a great christmas party thank to ed elkin calling and telling me about it. Fred spanjaaard was there too as were a lot of my friends. I was attracted to several women but only one was a musician and singer. I was on the piano all night after going into a back room at the owners house. Roy turned out to be a very funny fellow with characteristic trappings of a wizard. The room Fred, Roy and roy's friend went into to "Tune up" was covered floor to ceiling with electronic parts, machine parts, hardware and loads of tanks... He was in the benezine business selling cancer causing chemicals as a solvent. It reminded me of my childhood building electronic kits. and he looked a little like Grandpa.

I was totally turned on by Stephanie from Santa Cruz who I'd met years ago. She now moved to Maui and didn't remember waiting for my late plane from NY on that trip where AA fucked up on both directions and made me late for meetings.

I was having a strange time... maybe I was too high, even though I hadn't had anything beyond the usual drug of choice, pain killers and medical marijuana. I couldn't play any of my usual sing-a-long songs. nor christmas carols. I sat at the keys and all that would come out were noodelings. Loren was there. I had met him in Santa Cruz when visiting Dan two months back. I still have yet to back up my data and yesterday I discovered I am not getting mail.

Stephanie just called and wants to hang out at the beach. I better get an early start and get my food trip together. We are meeting to go swim with the dolphins.. Earlier yesterday, I was treated to a cranial sacral massage by Keith who called around noon. I had been working on getting my email fixed and the promotion out for the next showcase. The morning was spent in my bathtub office, laptop on the side of the tub and phones nearby, with a pitcher of water and cup to hydrate. I was in the tub for about 4 hours... Its too cold out for swimming. I guess I will try out the web suit again today even though its a size too small and makes me feel like a spacewalker.

I spoke with mother. she is going to fla in Jan to see if she can ween dad away from LEA who is in it just for the money.

Evite: V.A.R.I.O.U.S. Media Ink; The Maui Artists Showcase and Networking Event.

---------------- Wednesday, December 8, 2004 -----------

At is again. Spent the day back at the office finishing negotiaion with our next venue, and creating the promotional items, then changing the web site for our event:

Next on the production task list is PR... I danced from web designer, event producer, to artists advocate, press person and coach... I hand hold one of the artists on our next showcase. He seemed to think its ok to share a bunch of loose pages with dull ink jet images on plain paper. I suggested he'd be a lot better off with a polished portfolio in a presentation folder.

I have been at it all day. I've had it. Now is when I wish I had someone to curl up with, but no such luck. Why you ask? I haven't found the gal who is so in concert with who I am and what I do, that she would be an asset rather than a distraction to my world service. I certainly can't be with someone wanting the American Dream.

I need to get away from this computer for a while. But in the meantime, here is the PR for our event (and you can click on the title of this post):

Its funny how life works! - Synchronicity

I find myself at the Grand Wailea Resort on Maui. I was swimming in the ocean wtih Ocean at Alana's party. I was needing friends. I woke this morning and began crying for no apparant reason. I couldn't figure out why? I seemed to be missing someone loving me, physically loving me. Its been years since I've had a real girlfriend.

Ocean and I snorkeled with the turtles. I hadn't had time to eat and forgot to take my pain killers. She gave me an ibuprophen. It helped. I was thinking on the way back to the Grand Wailea where I was going to use the wireless WIFI that I must get something to eat. I was thinking the food will be expensive at the hotel, maybe I'll get a bannana or something.

I got here and noticed there was a Job Fair for the hotel. I got to pitch my ideas for a Creativity Camp at the kids camp and for the older guests, producing V.A.R.I.O.U.S. Media Ink; The Maui Artists Showcase and Networking Event on a regular basis. They had food and drink out. mostly sugar but I grabbed an apple and ate some muffins and butter, had coffee and filled my water bottle with with the bottled water - all free for the taking. So it was divine that not only would I get fed, but get some leads to the people I need to talk with to make dreams come true.

Digital Playroom: Audio for TV and New Media

Digital Playroom: Audio for TV and New Media

I was reading up on how to play sound through a telephone. I used to love to do that from my old Wollensack T-1515-4 reel to reel stereo recorder in 1959. That was when stereo pre-recorded tapes first came out. It was in those days that I became interested in sound recording and audio engineering.

Today I started crying for no apparant reason. All of a sudden, tear were running down my cheeks. I wonder if its becuase I have been alone so long, without real contact with family and a beloved. Oh, I see my mom once a year. She and I kind of get along and god, she is dear to me... but I have no wife or lover.... since I am in pain most of the time from a back injury, I've become a Mac-a-holic with so many humanitarian projects, that I have no time to try to find the right person. I know the best way to find a mate is to attract her naturally.

I wonder where this will be posted? I have forgotten the URL. If you are reading this, please write to me: and let me know where I can find my ADVENTURES OF SHILOH BONES BLOG. THANKS!

The Adventures of Shiloh Bones

We begin in a world at war... will it ever end? When his parents split up, Shiloh went inside and took solace in his talents and gifts. They are many. His life is dedicated to taking the risks needed to become his true authentic self; whatever that is. Shiloh's passion for music and all that brings peace consumes his every waking moment. Many moments however are shattered in agonizing pain... for he never quite healed from the divorce of his parents and the split of his soul. His compassionate understanding of the changes humankind now must navigate through drives him. Bones has pledged his life to bring all his talents and gifts to the aid of those less fortunate that himself; those incarcerated by their dogma and ego, driven by power, sex and the rush of conquest. Stay tuned for the real life adventures of Shiloh Bones; a dancer of the edge of these most dynamic times... Creative force is his allie, intuitive knowing; his guidestar, hunger for peace his unquenchable thirst as his body threatens his very sanity.

We switch to Maui after two months of travel to the mainland... From LA to Santa Cruz, San Francisco to Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm beach, Baltimore and New Jersey, with the grand finally in New York City that may have cost him a dear friendship. But the trip opened many doors, birth this journal and added stepping stones to an unpredictable future dancing on the edge of time.
