#1 CALL FOR VIDEOS - RealHealth Video

Mental Health Experiences

We are looking for videos about the experience of having a mental health disorder- Bipolar disorder, Depression, Phobias, etc.

These videos would be different from a normal RealHealth story in that we want to focus on the EXPERIENCE of the disorder, rather than what it is, its symptoms, its treatments, etc.

The video would be approx. 1:15 in length and would be the person giving a 1 minute overview of their experience in a specific manner --- Here is what the outline would look like:

1. On camera the subject would say their name, age and condition
2. Then they would talk for about 30 seconds about their experience of living with their condition- how it affects their life, if they have learned to cope with it, etc
3. Subject will talk for about 15-20 seconds about what steps they've taken to cope, how effective those have been and where they are now
4. Subject gives advice (non-medical) to others who might be going through a similar experience
*Video will include B-roll
*Subject will be looking into the camera

Note: You should use the RealHealth Story Pitch form when pitching this idea

Pay Scale = $100

*The Production Time for these videos will be 10 days from the date you receive a green light, rather than 2 weeks.

Please do your research and submit original and diverse questions. Doing so will increase your chances of receiving a green light.

2. Codecs used when submitting final videos: When using FCP, chose either Animation, DV/DVCPRO or worst case H.264. With all of these the quality should be "best", million + colors (if there is a color option), and the size should be either 720 X 480 (4:3, not 16:9) or 720 X 486 (4:3, not 16:9)

3. NO fades between Questions.

5. We will dock $5 off any questions that don't have proper handles and $5 off any appearance releases that are incomplete.

Letter From the Conference Chair
The first issue of this year's SIGGRAPHITTI is a major step towards meeting you in San Diego this August. The SIGGRAPH 2007 committee and I are already beginning to discern the general outline of the conference through the incredible submissions that are pouring in daily. It is apparent that 2007 is going to be another exciting and dynamic year for computer graphics and interactive techniques.
All the familiar programs that you expect and enjoy at SIGGRAPH will be back again. In addition, we formed new initiatives to attract more content from the most dynamic parts of the SIGGRAPH universe. These include:

• Featured speakers: To enhance the attendee experience, we are replacing the Keynote Speaker with three Featured Speakers, one for each of the three major constituencies in our community: industry/commerce, art, and research.

• More curated content: We will extend a practice begun in 2006 to augment the peer-reviewed submissions in most of our programs with invited content. For example, Emerging Technologies will present demonstrations of several revolutionary technologies that are just coming to market. In addition, the Panels, Special Sessions, and Guerilla Studio programs will be curated so that SIGGRAPH 2007 is guaranteed to showcase the best work in each field.

• IP Marketplace: This is a new listing service for intellectual property based on feedback from you. For a nominal fee, inventors and owners of patents, software libraries, circuit cores, etc. can list them for sale or license. Potential buyers can peruse the listings and then contact sellers in person at the conference to discuss purchase or licensing. The details of each deal will be decided solely by the buyer and seller.

• FJORG!: An innovative, new contest will be unveiled at SIGGRAPH 2007. FJORG! is a contest of skill, creativity, and endurance. Teams of iron animators will be challenged for 32 hours straight to create an animated sequence of at least 15 seconds in length.

• More co-located workshops and events: The Graphics Hardware Workshop, the Symposium on Computer Animation (SCA), and Sandbox: A Videogame Symposium will be back again. In addition, we welcome for the first time the 5th International Symposium on Non-Photorealistic Animation and Rendering (NPAR) and the Emerging Display Technologies Workshop (EDT).

I encourage you to forward this e-newsletter on to your business associates and colleagues and refer them to receive information about SIGGRAPH 2007 from the SIGGRAPH web site. SIGGRAPH 2007 conference housing is now open to all attendees who want to save the most money and book their hotel rooms early. And, by reserving a room through the SIGGRAPH 2007 hotel reservation system, you will have access to shuttle service between the hotels and the convention center. Those attendees who reserve their rooms through SIGGRAPH 2007 will receive special wristbands that allow them to board the shuttle buses. Attendees without wristbands will not be allowed to use the shuttle service.

New: SIGGRAPH 2007 IP Marketplace
Connecting Buyers and Sellers
SIGGRAPH is introducing a new offering, Intellectual Property (IP) Marketplace, with the goal of simplifying the complicated process of matching parties for buying and selling of intellectual property as it pertains to the ever-expanding computer craphics (CG) and human-computer-interaction (HCI) industries.

For a nominal matching fee, inventors and owners of such properties can list them for sale or license to the computer graphics community via the SIGGRAPH IP Marketplace. The IP listings will be made available via the SIGGRAPH 2007 conference web site to registered users.

"Our hope is that the SIGGRAPH IP Marketplace will facilitate inventors and entrepreneurs working together to develop new CG/HCI products and services," said Joe Marks, SIGGRAPH 2007 Conference Chair from Walt Disney Feature Animation. "What you see in the IP Marketplace this year may be the basis of products you will see in the SIGGRAPH Exhibition a few years from now."
The IP Marketplace application will be available in Mid-March for patent holders or technology seekers to begin uploading data. Applications will be accepted through 1 June 2007.

Just Launched: FJORG!
Iron Animators Working for 32 Straight Hours
SIGGRAPH announces the launch of a new program, FJORG! (pronounced FORGE), in which three-member teams will be challenged to create a character-driven animated sequence based on a specific theme provided by the judges. The catch - it must all be done in 32 straight hours before a live audience and multiple staged distractions. Winning teams, chosen by an elite panel of judges from throughout the entertainment industry, will earn the coveted title of FJORG! - 2007 Viking Animator.

"Every year SIGGRAPH brings the brightest minds together from throughout the world," says Patricia Beckmann-Wells, FJORG! Chair. "FJORG! is a unique opportunity to watch talented people put together incredible work in a limited timeframe under significant pressure. This is expected to be the most challenging animation contest in the world."

FJORG! applications will be accepted beginning 15 March through 1 May 2007.

As SIGGRAPH returns to California, a record number of first-time exhibitors are expected.
"We have noticed a major increase in exhibitors this year as SIGGRAPH returns to the West Coast. Currently, 152 vendors are scheduled to exhibit and we expect this number to continue to climb as the year progresses," said Mike Weil, SIGGRAPH 2007 Exhibition Manager.

The SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival is the premier event for the world's most innovative and talented digital film creators. A jury made up of industry greats from around the world will select the best submissions to be presented in daily Animation Theaters and the Electronic Theater during the conference. Selections include outstanding achievements in time-based art, scientific visualization, visual effects, real-time graphics, and narrative shorts.

The deadline for submitting your computer animation for the SIGGRAPH 2007 Computer Animation Festival is coming up 14 March 2007.

Sketches & Posters Unite
Two Programs Become One
SIGGRAPH Sketches are brief, illustrated talks on computer graphics and interactive techniques in art, cinema, advertising, design, science, and engineering. SIGGRAPH Posters are graphic displays of incremental, preliminary, partial, and innovative insights that are important but not fully developed.
In the past, SIGGRAPH conferences have featured separate Sketches and Posters programs, however both have always shared the goal of presenting new, innovative ideas that can be described in a single page. For SIGGRAPH 2007, these two programs will be showcased in a unified program, with one submission process, one deadline, and one jury; only the method of presentation will be different. The deadline to submit Sketches and Posters is 27 April 2007.

Aloha Friend of Art and Technology for Humanity,

I haven't been using this listserve for quite a while. Things are moving fast again so I thought I would keep you informed of the dramatic happenings for social change in our world and the evolution of my ideas, projects and services.

I want to share a personal experience. In 1997 I was invited to speak in Graz Austria as a result of Creativity Cafe being discovered on the Net. While in Europe, Ed Elkin, my traveling companion/consulting synergist and I were invited to visist ZEGG. I had been in touch with the ZEGG director for many months prior to our trip. I was anxious to meet a new cyber friend in person and I will share if you like just how delightful our meeting was. There are photos of our voyage posted on the net too.

ZEGG Summercamp
is a big community event for those who want to integrate personal growth and
an attentive engagement in what concerns the planet. This year the focus of
the camp is “Synergy – Approaching Collective Wisdom”.
In some moments while cooperating in a group of individuals, a magic change
happens. Everyone is aware of it; no-one can explain it in terms of every-day
logic. The people involved stop fighting for their breathing space. Instead a
kind of collective consciousness arises. Its creativity and intelligence is
far more complex than that of the sum of all individuals.

The camp is a field to explore and experience this phenomenon.

The Summercamp Program
On both weekends the focus is on talks and seminars, given by ZEGG members and
invited speakers. During the week group experience in the main tent (300
participants) and in the practice groups (20 – 50 participants) is the
central structure.
The practice groups, facilitated by teams of ZEGG, meet daily for exchange,
going deeper into our themes and into all that moves our heart. The power of
community can be experienced in a special way, in the Forum( a group
communication tool), in art, play, sports and music, in silence and dance.
For English speaking participants an English speaking group is provided.

Cultural highlights of the camp will be (among others): Drumming Event with
the NANIGO Drumming Ensemble from Belzig, Art Cafe with films and live music.

Thomas Hübl: Spiritual teacher. “We will create a high-energy group field,
that can dissolve our limiting filter systems and makes us more awake and
more transparent”.

HAVE FUN EXPLORING THE WORLD OF LONG TIME EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHY

Peter is teaching his unique style of light painting during the magic hour (after the sun goes down) to those interested in painting with light!

Bring your digital and/or film camera (that is capable of holding the shutter open for at least 1 minute). You can paint with any light source, howerver one or more crack and glow sticks in different colors as well as a flashlight with fresh batteries, external flash unit, and a sturdy tripod is recommended.

Learn to create beautiful studio-like photographs, using natural, and artificial light you supply. This class is for beginning as well as advanced photographers. Call now to reserve your spot. Space is limited to 5 photographers per session lasting two hours. The cost is $60.

We are all creative in one way or another by imagination, the way we dress, or decorate our homes. Creative photographs are stories in a two-dimensional single frame. This presentation includes some personal images and analysis of their design. Some suggestions for equipment and use are also included in this presentation by Paul Wohlfiel, former professional photographer.
